Program Sequence

Day 1 - Pinnawala & Kandy

Pinnawala

We will pick you up early in the morning and start our journey towards Kandy. The first stop is a visit to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Founded in 1975, the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a breeding ground for wild Asian elephants. The aim of the orphanage is to protect and care for the orphaned elephants in the island's jungle. The elephants are offered a natural habitat where they are taken to the river twice a day.

Tea plantation & -factory

Then we  will stop at Tea factory and Tea plantation where you can learn about tea and taste a freshly brewed cup of Ceylon tea.

Dancing Show

In the evening, you can enjoy a cultural dance show. The Kandy Cultural Dance Show is an inspiring show of Sri Lankan art, dance and cultural heritage that is a must-see for any visitor visiting the historic city of Kandy.

Temple of the Tooth

Then finally, we take you to the Temple of the Tooth during the evening ceremony time. Every day there are ceremonies (at 6am, 10am and 6pm) where the tooth, kept in an ornate golden case, is taken out of its chamber for devout Buddhists to see. Flower offerings are placed in front of the chamber of the sacred tooth, prayers fill the room and drummers fill the air with rhythmic songs. People line up to get a glimpse of the golden case up close. Even though the room is sticky with sweat and humidity and the space is cramped for both devotees and tourists, it is worth every second of your time. You get a bit of a real feel for the ritual, tradition and significance of this place..

Day 2 - Botanical Garden & Ambuluwawa

Royal Botanical Garden

The next day after breakfast, drive to the Royal Botanical Gardens and visit the former pleasure gardens of a 14th century Kandyan queen. Admire more than 4,000 tropical and subtropical plants.

Ambuluwawa

Before heading back to your hotel, one more highlight of your trip is visiting Ambuluwawa. When you reach the top of Ambuluwawa, you can enjoy the most amazing views, which can sometimes be obscured by the persistent mist.

But beware: once the mist lifts from view, it can be scary for the climbers, especially those who are afraid of heights. Hiking in Ambuluwawa is by no means dangerous or risky, but it would not be the ideal type of adventure for people who are afraid of heights.

Optionally, you can visit the Amba Swing to take a photo. (not included in the price)

    Real people, real experiences

We arranged to meet up at the hotel when we had settled in. Tony's son met us and arranged our tours.
Our first trip was the Madu river safari which was excellent. Tony is a very knowledgeable man and explained a lot about Sri Lankan culture. We released the turtles into the sea and adopted some eggs. Hopefully there will be survivors from this.
The prices of the trips were affordable and good value for money.
Please ensure you have Sri Lankan currency for your trips as you pay out tips.
We also went on the Kandy tour. This again is excellent. The elephants to the Temple of the tooth were all memorable trips that are precious memories.
Tony does look after you and wants you to enjoy the tours. Which we did. They are worth the money you pay. We would have done more tours but they were all day and we were very tired afterwards. (We are in our 50's)
It was my birthday on the Kandy tour and Tony had the minibus decorated and bought a little birthday cake for a treat. He made it special.
Excellent tour guide and he has a heart of gold.
A lovely man. Nothing is too much trouble.
