Program Sequence

Day 1 - Udawalawe & Ella

Udawalawe Safari

Early morning drive to Udawalawe National Park. Several hundred elephants and other rare plants and animals live in this park. It takes two hours from your Ahungalla Hotel (Riu Hotel / Heritance Hotel). We planned an early morning jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park. At this time you can expect to see more wild animals in their natural environment such as elephants, deer, water buffalo, birds and many more.

Udawalawe is an important habitat for wild Sri Lankan elephants, which are relatively easy to see in their open habitats. Many elephants are attracted to the park as Udawalawe Reservoir is home to a herd that is believed to live there permanently.

Elephant Transit Home

After a three-hour safari, you will be driven to Udawalawe "Elephant Transit Home", where you can watch baby elephants being fed milk. This works together with the Born Free Foundation (GB). Here, orphaned or sick elephants are fed and cared for until they are strong enough to be returned to the wild. From behind a barrier, you can watch the elephants running around the grounds behind a keeper as they are fed milk through tubes, all the while stamping and trumpeting with impatience.

Rawana Waterfalls

Then head to Ella. It takes two and a half hours from Udawalawe. Ella is a charming mountain town in Sri Lanka known for its hikes and trails. With tea plantations, waterfalls and many natural landscapes, this area of Sri Lanka is now a favorite among tourists.

En route visit Rawana Waterfall. These picturesque cascades called Rawana Ella in the Ella Gap are among the most photographed waterfalls in Sri Lanka as they are located near the main road connecting the central highlands to the southern plains.

Then check in to your hotel in Ella

Nine Arch Bridge

In the evening we will take you to Nine Arches Bridge. This is located on the Demodara Loop and stretches over 91 meters at a height of 24 meters. The beautiful nine arches make it a very picturesque place, especially since it is located in a dense jungle and agricultural environment. There is a forest behind the railway and tea leaves are grown below.

Mini Adams Peak

In the evening we will take you to Nine Arches Bridge. This is located on the Demodara Loop and stretches over 91 meters at a height of 24 meters. The beautiful nine arches make it a very picturesque place, especially since it is located in a dense jungle and agricultural environment. There is a forest behind the railway and tea leaves are grown below.

Day 2 - Train journey & tea

Scenic train journey

The next morning you take the train from Ella. From here you will take a breathtaking train journey to the charming town of Nanu Oya. This is one of the most scenic train rides in Asia. A great way to explore tea country is to hop on the train. The dramatic landscape of the highlands excites the senses as you pass lush tea plantations, majestic peaks and cascading waterfalls.

Nuwara Eliya

After the train journey, explore the panoramic beauty of the beautiful town of Nuwara Eliya, also known as "Little England". On the way you will come across attractive waterfalls between the hills.

Ceylon Tea

Then head to the hills of Sri Lanka and take a tour of the tea region.

Take a tour of a tea factory where you can see how tea leaves are made from start to finish.

Ramboda Waterfall

On the way you will visit the beautiful Ramboda waterfall and some famous places.

Then it's back to your Hotel.

Real people, real experiences

We cannot recommend Tony highly enough.
We booked the two day Udawalawa safari and Ella tour before we arrived and it was two full days of wonderful sights and experiences. The early morning safari was so exciting, we then visited the elephant sanctuary, waterfalls and walked up Little Adam's Peak . After a night at a hotel with wonderful views in Ella we took the amazing train journey, visited a tea plantation and Little England.
We then booked additional trips - a few hours snorkelling at Hikkaduwa, then the river safari and Galle trip. Releasing baby turtles into the sea was a delight and we learned so much about turtle conservation, cinnamon harvesting , exotic fruits, Buddhism and the impact of the tsunami on this coastline.
Tony managed to get us into Galle cricket club which was an extra treat.
Tony and his drivers were friendly, informative and obliging and the trips were packed with activities and things to see.
Thank you Tony for making our holiday extra special.
