Kithulgala is a small but beautiful town located in a wet zone rainforest, approximately three and a half hours from Ahungalla. This city is one of the wettest zones in the country, not only because the Kelani River flows through it, but also because it experiences two monsoons every year. These monsoons trigger the flow of water in the river, making it an ideal place for adventurous sports like white water rafting. Also, the green surroundings and humid atmosphere make it an ideal location for a bird habitat; Therefore, bird watching is a common activity in Kitulgala. An interesting episode in the history of Kitulagala is the filming of the film "The Bridge on the River Kwai" in 1957. Remains of the bridge's concrete foundation are still visible today.
